Oddly named “Metric,” these lamps measure 1160 millimetres in length—not quite the round, base-10 number you’d expect from a metric system standard like a kilometre (1000 metres) or a metre (100 centimetres). Why the unusual size? It’s anyone’s guess—perhaps a clever marketing move from the 1970s to make these custom lamps stand out. Whatever the reason, thousands of these fixtures were installed across Canada, leaving many stuck with this quirky standard.
The good news? We’ve got an affordable LED solution that not only fits but outperforms. This 1160 mm LED tube is ballast-compatible, working with T8 electronic fluorescent ballasts. (Note: If your system uses a T12 “Metric” ballast, you’ll need to upgrade the ballast too—we’ve got those available.)
